Car rental can be arranged for tours and day trips starting from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other cities to surrounding tourist attractions for a day or two. At times, it can be up to 5 days, depending on the interest of tourists in discovering Vietnam in small, private groups. Costs are agreed at the beginning, but vary greatly on factors including type of car, model, trip length, number of days, etc. For example, a new Toyota Altis taking 3 persons from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay for 2 days can cost between 120-150 USD.

Note that cars can be rented to INGOs on long-term contracts to take staff on frequent field visits to remote project areas. Alternatively, cars can be contracted to businesses on a one year contract basis, where prices are fixed at the contract signing date. Cost can be calculated by multiplying the number of kilometres travelled by approximately 0.30-0.50 USD per km.
