Situated in Lao Cai Province and 350 km from Hanoi, Sapa is famous not only for its beautiful and magnificent scenery but also for its cultural diversity. In French colonial period in the early 20th century, the French used to consider Sapa a Summer Capital in Northern Vietnam. If visitors decide to climb onto the peak of the mountain, it is necessary to go with a local guide.

The climate of Sapa is quite cool and nice with a subtropical climate in the summer and a bit cold and foggy in winter. Average temperature in Sapa town is from 15.4 to 29º C. In winter, it may be down to 1º C, and tourist can experience snow here.

Most tourists agree that it would be regretful if the relaxation time in cool and fresh weather is not accompanied by visiting trips to Sapa’s prideful natural beauty spots, such as Ham Rong Mountain, Silver Waterfall, Rattan Bridge, Bamboo Forest and Ta Phin Cave. The town is also the starting point for many mountain climbers and scientists who want to discover Fansipan Mountain. Moreover, Sapa is considered home to various kinds of flowers which are unique in the whole country. When the Vietnamese Lunar New Year Festival named Tet comes, the whole Sapa Town is filled in the pink color of peach blossom from surrounding forests. Sapa is also the kingdom of orchids. Tourists who love orchids are amazed when trekking in the forest filled with hundreds kinds of orchids of brilliant colors and fantastic shapes, such as Orchid Princess, Orchid of My Fair Lady's Shoe.

Sapa is famous for its unique cultural diversity in a combination of different ethnic minority groups’ culture. Visiting Sapa, tourists have a chance to discover the unique customs of the local residents. Local markets which are one of typical factors in the town are always crowded and joyful and attract hundreds of visitors. This is the common place for minority groups to meet and trade goods. Furthermore, tourists coming to Sapa at weekends have the great opportunity to experience the interesting courtship and martial-life of the locals in the market named “love market” and “wife kidnapping ceremony” of the Hmong people, which begins on April 29th every year
